To this end, I have been intimately involved with a number of efforts involving both the public and private sectors. One is the Southern West Virginia Preparedness Partnership, a collaborative effort that began in 2009. This joint venture brings together representatives from local government, the business community, emergency responders and non-governmental organizations in order to heighten our region’s level of awareness, preparedness and resiliency. It is a shining example of how we can collectively be “Beckley Ready.”
Prior to taking on the role as Director of Emergency Services, Kevin Taylor was a member of the Beckley Fire Department for three decades, the last eight as Fire Chief. Kevin has earned a M.A. in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security, a M.S. in Adult and Technical Education from Marshall University, as well as a B.S. in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University. In addition, he is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. Kevin is also designated as a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) through the International Association of Emergency Managers and a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) through Disaster Recovery Institute International.
