Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit".  Aristotle

Training has been cited as the most important responsibilities in any law enforcement agency.

DSC Training serves three broad purposes:

First, well-trained officers are generally better prepared to act decisively and correctly in a broad spectrum of situations.

Second, training usually results in greater productivity, self-reliance, and effectiveness.

Third, it fosters cooperation and unity of purpose.

The Beckley Police Department conducts an average of 5,000 hrs of continuing education a year.
